Thoughts While Preparing For Our First Moto Camping Trip

One of the crazy things about a big move is all the things you find as you pack, and all the things you discover has been lost as you unpack. True, right? Well that is what recently happened in my family as we were pulling out all of our camping gear recently.

If you are new to my blog you may not know that though we have been in California for a while, it was initially on a temporary assignment. Recently it turned into a permanent relocation, requiring that we pack up our home in Texas and move everything to California. Add to that the difference in the cost of living between the two states and the fact we are now empty nesters, we significantly down sized. It was interesting to sort through all our camping gear to learn what we kept, what was damaged in shipment, and what was just too old to be of any further use.

In the past we have camped quite a bit in both RVs and by packing up the SUV with all our gear. This year, as we are looking to step into Moto Camping, we are trying to decide what needs to upgraded to fit on a bike and what we just need to add to our kit.

Why is this so important to us? Because this summer my husband and I are taking off on a 15 day moto camping trip to the northwest! Yes, that is 15 days on the bikes, in a tent, enjoying the roads of the US. Now keep in mind, I use to think that roughing it was black & white television. Really! So comfort for me is very important. We have already upgraded out tent and our sleeping pads, and are looking to upgrade out cooking kit and lanterns. So this leads me to two (2) questions.

  1. If you have ever been to the northwest or have that on your bucket list of places to go, what are some must see places/things to see or roads to ride?

  2. If you moto camp and all your gear was lost, what would be the one item that you would have to replace with exactly the same thing?

There will be other smaller long weekend trips that we will be taking between now and then, but our big one this year will be checking off a big one I have wanted to do for a long time. So if you have any suggestions to help make this trip more successful, please drop them in a comment below.

Now get out and ride, have fun, be safe, and catch you in the next post……
