Hikers, Bikers, and A Baby Owl
What a completely unexpected and fun weekend in the San Gabriel mountains! There were hikers, bikers, and we even helped save a baby owl. What could be better? Oh! It was also my husbands birthday!
Towards the end of April me and my husband decided to spend the weekend riding in the San Gabriel Mountains. We could not have chosen a better campgrounds if we had tried. Where we were was just off the Pacific Coast trail. This is a hiking trail that stretches 2,600 miles (4,184 km) from Mexico to Canada. Almost without exception, all the backpackers we met that weekend were hiking the whole of the trail! That is some hard core hiking!
The next morning we woke and as we were preparing to head out to ride for the day, the staff at the campgrounds found a baby owl that had fallen out of a tree. We were gifted with the unexpected joy of not only seeing a baby owl up close, we also had the privative of helping to get it back into to the tree to its mama.
As we headed out on the bikes, we enjoyed some of the most epic riding we have enjoyed here in California to date. The views were spectacular, the roads were curvy and challenging, we stumbled on a great little burger joint for lunch. The biggest part of it was that I was spending my husbands birthday weekend enjoying something we both love with him.
Over all.... It was a fantastic weekend. Meeting new people, seeing wildlife up close, spectacular riding, and I laughed a lot with my husband. This was time well invested and I cannot wait to do it again.
Now get out and ride, have fun, be safe, and catch you in the next post……
