Getting Confidence Back After Going Down On A Motorcycle

Getting confidence back after going down on a motorcycle is never an easy task. Well, at least it wasn't for me.

If you have ridden for very long, then you know we all have faced something that shook our confidence. If you are new to riding or are thinking about riding, At some point it will happen. When it does, you are not alone.

After going down hard a couple of weeks ago, I found myself facing unexpected fear of being on the bike. I started second guessing myself, my skills, my judgement. What got to me the most was when I was planning a weekend moto camping trip, I found myself second guess the ride planned because it will be a challenging one.

If you are new to my blog you may not know this about me yet. Second guessing myself, this made me mad. Like really annoyed and frustrated. And I am not about to sit by and allow fear to take away from my life. So being the 'look it in the face and do it anyway' kind of person I am, I went out on a ride to do all the things that were causing me to hesitate. Maneuvering in parking lots and gas stations. I finalized the plans for the weekend and booked out camp site reservation. Though the scariest was to ride the road that went down on. It was part wanting to throw up and part wanting to cheer because I did.

And I am so happy I did it. Facing the fear, conquering the fear, was so empowering. To remember that I can do these things with confidence.

Something else I learned is that the path to being able to face the fear to ride again with confidence after experiencing something that makes us second guess ourselves, our skills, our judgement, takes each of us down a different path, at a different pace that is uniquely our own. The point is, what ever your path, what ever your time frame… It is okay.

Now get out and ride, have fun, be safe, and catch you in the next post……
